Grocers Begin to Offer Paperless Coupons

Meijer, Stater Bros., Ukrop's and United Supermarkets have agreed to begin offering EZ-PIC Paperless Coupons from Unicous Marketing Inc., which projects  that 2,800 grocery stores will offer the coupon system by the end of the year.

The instant coupon currently is available in approximately 1,000 grocery stores nationwide, and also is available at BI-LO, Big Y, Food City and Kings.

EZ-PIC is a paperless coupon advertised on retail store shelves and redeemed electronically at check-out, eliminating the hassle of paper coupons. Because EZ-PIC coupons are different from traditional FSI, paper coupons or in-store temporary price reductions, "they provide extra value to shoppers, larger baskets for retailers and more unit sales for manufacturers," according to Unicous Marketing.

"As retailers and manufacturers understand the effectiveness of EZ-PIC, our store base and product selection continues to grow," said John Thompson, vice president of operations for Chicago-based Unicous Marketing. "Data has shown that EZ-PIC delivers -- not just for consumers, but for retailers and manufacturers alike. We're trending with a 71 percent lift on promoted items year-over-year."

EZ-PIC is the only technology currently on the market, which provides a completely electronic promotional transaction, according to Unicous.
