Jack in the Box To Add Two New Menu Items

A string of new products over the past several months has helped increase same-store sales at Jack in the Box, and the company is betting that two new menu items –– Breakfast Bowls and Pita Snacks –– will continue the upward trend.

Two versions of the Breakfast Bowls will debut next week –– the Heart Breakfast Bowl and the Denver Breakfast Bowl. Both will include a blend of hash brown sticks, scrambled eggs, white cheddar cheese sauce, shredded cheddar cheese and seasoning. The Hearty version also will include bacon and sausage, while the Denver variety will add sliced ham, and red and green peppers.

Later this month, the 2,148-unit chain will launch three varieties of Pita Snacks, each featuring a whole grain pita stuffed with shredded cheddar cheese, shredded lettuce, a smoky chipotle sauce and choice of grilled or crispy chicken fillet, strips of marinated sirloin steak or a fish fillet.

Same-store sales for the third-quarter ended last month fell 0.4 percent, which was above company expectation. The popularity of its new Real Fruit Smoothies, which debuted in April, is partially credited for the same-store sales drive and it hopes additional new menu items will further boost sales.

San Diego-based Jack in the Box, like many fast feeders, increased menu prices recently in response to mounting ingredient costs. Prices were increased 2.5 percent, and the company said it is hiring a price consultant to evaluate the impact of increasing prices a bit more.
