Wal-Mart’s Marketside Exterior Design Revealed
Wal-Mart’s new small format Marketside store slated to open in the Phoenix market in the coming months, is a significant departure from the chain’s low-cost hypermarket designs.
The city of Mesa has posted some photos on it site of one store under development, which uses natural wood, purple awnings and green lettering on its logo. The purple color will also be incorporated into staff uniforms, according to local reports.
The first four stores are being built on former drugstore sites; Wal-Mart has reportedly acquired two other sites in the Phoenix area where it plans to build outlets from the ground up, local reports say.
The Marketside stores – which will focus on fresh prepared food and meal solutions -- will compete directly with Tesco’s Fresh & Easy Neighborhood Markets, of which there are currently 20 in the Phoenix market, according to the Financial Times. Tesco has announced it plans to open another 16 in the area over the next year.
