New Rutter's Store Serves Omelets, Stir-fry and Fajitas
The new Rutter’s Farm store, which will open in Penn Township, Pa., in October will be serving up made-to-order omelets, fajitas and wok stir-fry set off with accent lighting and music, according to a report in the Evening Sun.
This new 5,200 square-foot store is modeled after a similar store in East Berlin, focused on offering customer one-stop service including meals, fuel, car wash, beverages and myriad other convenience store items.
The new prototype is part of the 50-unit convenience store chain’s growth strategy. Over the past year the York, Pa.-based company opened the updated stores in Dillsburg, York and East Berlin.
Rutter’s Farm Stores is investing more than $55 million to build five more stores and replace five others with the new image, according to the Evening Sun.
The company got the idea to add wok cooking after a visit last year to Ireland, which is known for having "very interesting and progressive" convenience stores, Scott Hartman, president and CEO of Rutter’s told the Evening Star.
"We have had a very nice response, some surprised responses as people didn't expect to see that level of cooking and other extensive offerings,” Hartman said. "The response has been favorable."
At the food bar customers can select their own ingredients for omelets, stir-fry and fajitas. There are also a variety of sandwiches, wraps and subs on the menu. The store also will sell freshly made bread daily.
Rutter’s Farm Stores is a third-generation family-owned business with stores in York, Adams, Cumberland, Franklin and Lancaster counties.
